Palm Springs, CA
Right after our wedding, Mark and I spent a few days in Palm Springs. In the months leading up to our big day, we didn't have the time or energy to plan a full-scale honeymoon (that adventure is still ahead of us!), but we did want a little buffer between getting married and jumping back into work. For our mini-moon, we chose one of our favorite places, where we knew we could bask not only in our newlywed bliss, but also in the warm southern California sun.
L'Horizon Hotel & Spa
L'Horizon's mid-century modern aesthetic, secluded individual bungalows, and central infinity pool make it an ideal getaway. The history buff in me loved that the grounds were originally designed in 1952 by William F. Cody and hosted Marilyn Monroe and Presidents Reagan and Nixon over the years. The newlywed in me appreciated just how beautiful and serene our entire experience was.
Workshop Kitchen + Bar
The most inspired dinner of the trip, our meal at Workshop Kitchen + Bar blew our minds. (I promise it wasn't just because we were so happy!) The cocktails reeled us in and the Duck Fat Fries (with a side of green peppercorn mayo) sealed the deal.
Customs Coffee
This tiny coffee shop not only whips up incredible iced lattes, but also serves some of the best donuts I've ever had (and I've had a few). Mark and I got three to share because we couldn't narrow down our options among the various frostings, sprinkles, and fillings. They were all worth it.
Palm Springs Art Museum
The art history major in me would be remiss not to highlight the spectacular Palm Springs Art Museum, which is home to works by Henry Moore, Helen Frankenthaler, and Ed Ruscha. Its size allows visitors to comfortably view the entire collection, and admission is always free.
